"The Photographic Record and Survey of Sussex" was an ambitious project initiated by the Sussex Archaeological Society in 1903. The survey aimed to record the changes to the county of Sussex "in order to pass on to our descendants a truer record of our times".
The survey was active from 1903 to the early 1920s when it was packed away in its entirety and left untouched in a museum store for almost 90 years. The exciting discovery of the survey collection provides us with previously unseen images of Sussex. Subjects covered include customs, buildings, amusements and ceremonies.
